Tom Som Pla Nuea-On (Sour Soup with Whisker Sheatfish)

Sour Soup with Whisker Sheatfish is made from fish, shrimp paste, ginger, spices, herbs, tamarind juice and sugar. It has a sour, salty and sweet taste. The dish is slightly different from Tom Yum because of the added ginger.


Nutrition

The dish contains protein and essential fats. Ginger relives flatulence, intestinal cramps and nausea. The dish is recommended as a healthy dish.

Ingredient

300 grams Whisker Sheatfish (fresh-water fish), cut into bite-size pieces
15 each minced garlic cloves
5 each minced red shallots
4 stalks lemongrass, two inch tender portions, finely minced
¼ cup coarsely chopped galangal
2 tbsp. coarsely chopped fresh turmeric
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
4 cups water
Lime juice to taste


How-to

1. Bring the water to a boil, add the red shallots, garlic, lemongrass, galangal and turmeric. Stir and let boil for a few minutes.
2. Add the Whisker Sheatfish, do not stir until nearly done, otherwise the soup will have a fish smell.
3. Season with the sugar, salt and lime juice.

Tips
Palm sugar vinegar or vinegar can be added to taste.
