Tum Suaw (Spicy Papaya Salad with Thai Rice Vermicelli)

Tum suaw is a kind of papaya salad to which Thai rice vermicelli is added for taste and carbohydrates.


Nutrition

Thai rice vermicelli contain carbohydrates and the vegetables contain vitamins and minerals. Papaya contains proteolytic enzyme (Protease), which is a digestive enzyme needed to digest protein.

Ingredient

1 cup shredded papaya
1 cup Thai rice vermicelli
3 each garlic cloves
5 – 6 each bird eye chilies or dried chilies
2 each Sida tomatoes, halved
2 each salted crabs (pu-kem)
1 each long bean, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 tbsp boiled pla-ra liquid
1 tbsp fish sauce
¼ cup lime juice
1 tbsp palm sugar


How-to

1. Pound the chilies and garlic in a mortar to make a paste.
2. Add the tomatoes, salted crabs and pla-ra. Add the papaya. Season with the lime juice, fish sauce and palm sugar. Add Thai rice vermicelli. Mix together.
3. Serve on a plate and with vegetables.
