Nam Prik – Aong (Tomato Spicy Dip)

Nam Prik - Aong is a common dip among people in the North. Its color is orange from tomatoes and chilies. It is sour, salty, spicy and slightly sweet. Serve with local vegetables.


Nutrition

The main ingredient of the dish is tomatoes, which are high in vitamin C. They also contain lycopene which reduces the risk of prostate cancer.

Ingredient

400 grams minced pork
20 each cherry tomatoes
1 tbsp. sliced coriander leaves
1 tbsp. sliced spring onions
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
¼ cup water

Ingredients for curry paste
20 each dried bird eye chilies
5 each red shallots
10 each garlic cloves
1 tbsp. shrimp paste
½ tsp. salt


How-to

1. Pound the spices, until well blended. Add the shrimp paste and salt, pound until well mixed.
2. Heat the oil in a wok over medium heat, add the curry paste and stir-fry until aromatic. Add the minced pork and water. Stir-fry until well cooked.
3. Add the tomatoes and stir-fry until mixed. Simmer until the tomatoes are cooked. Remove from the heat.
4. Serve with vegetables.
